As we have introduced in class, new technologies are starting to change the logistics in companies. There are plenty of examples explaining that Amazon is wondering to introduce Drones in their day to day shipments. For that reason, I found interesting the following TED Talks.
The title of the conference is “Let the Inventory Walk and Talk” and it’s done by Mick Mountz, who has revolutionized the way warehouses pack and ship their inventory by using new technologies as robots, mobile shelving, and algorithms based on complexity theory.
As the description of the conference says, Mick Mountz created a system that change the business logistics reality: “What used to take hours of tedious tasks is transformed into fun, 15-minute, click-to-ship order processing. Hope it is interesting for you as it was for me. 🙂 – Pol
It explains easily how the warehouses have changed last years and the impact to the productivity and accuracy. He explains the dependency that there was between workers when they were using old methods, right now every worker is doing his job and if he wants to do a break the chain won’t stop.
It is interesting how the products are distributed inside of the warehouse depending on their rotation, that can be related the ABC system seen in class, and the importance of computer science in these places.
