In today’s lecture the teacher spoke about how important it is to load a transportation device, for example a truck, in an efficient way. One thing to consider is to load first the things that have to be unloaded as last. This article focuses on the automation revolution of loading. Another important subject in the article is the four C’s: consolidation, cost optimization and collaboration. Three components important in load planning. At last it states that continuous movement of trucks that are fully loaded is important. Moving an empty truck is a waste of money. There is an example about a company Monsanto that uses web-enabled systems to see a network and identify load matching opportunities with that network.
To summarize: I think this article is really useful to understand the loading problem in transportation management.
